Car door dent and scratches – insurance claim or not?
About a month ago I dented and scratched my drivers side rear door on a pole in a parking garage. Didn’t submit the claim because I thought that it would only cost about $500 to fix, which is the amount of my deductible. Today I went to a body shop and they gave me an estimate of $1100. Now I’m wondering if I should submit a claim (if its not too late). I have had two accidents in the last two years – one my fault, one not, but the insurance companies knows about both. A couple of weeks ago I got pulled over for an outdated sticker. When I handed the officer my insurance, it was last years paper (I cleaned out my purse the week before, I obviously took the wrong paper out). He gave me a ticked for the outdated sticker and a court summons for driving without insurance. He told me that if I brought proof of insurance to the station, he would cancel the court date (proof I had insurance before that date). So I brought the paperwork to the station, had another office photocopy it and leave it for him but I haven’t heard anything. I don’t want to assume that it’s been dropped without having been told it is. Should I show up to court on the date just in case? What can I expect if I do? BTW I live in Ontario if that helps."

My husband gets insurance through his work, and they take out $170 a week (he gets paid weekly). So that totals about $730 a month for us and our kids plus maternity benefits.
